Best Time to Visit Cebu 2026: A Month-by-Month Guide

Cebu is one of the Philippines' most visited destinations, and for good reason. But timing your trip right can mean the difference between perfect beach days and getting stuck indoors during a tropical downpour. As someone who has traveled across the Visayas for years, here is exactly when to visit Cebu depending on what you want to do.

Cebu's Two Seasons

The Philippines has two main seasons, and Cebu follows this pattern closely. The dry season runs from approximately December to May, and the wet season covers June to November. Unlike Luzon, Cebu is somewhat sheltered by surrounding islands, so it rarely takes direct typhoon hits. But heavy rains and rough seas during wet months can still disrupt travel plans, especially boat trips to neighboring islands.

Dry Season: December to May

This is the peak travel window and the safest bet for most visitors. Skies are clear, seas are calm, and temperatures hover between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius. This is the best period for island hopping, beach trips to Bantayan and Malapascua, and diving around Moalboal and Oslob.

December to February

The coolest and most comfortable months. Temperatures dip slightly at night, especially in the highlands around Dalaguete and Oslob. This is the busiest tourist period because of Christmas, New Year, and the Sinulog Festival in January. Expect higher hotel prices and crowded attractions. Book accommodation at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance during Sinulog week (third Sunday of January).

March to May

The hottest months. March and April are excellent for beach trips and diving, with water visibility at its best. May starts getting humid and occasional afternoon showers begin, but it is still mostly dry. This is also when you will find slightly lower prices compared to the December to February peak.

Wet Season: June to November

Rain comes in bursts, usually in the afternoon or evening. Mornings are often clear. June and July are manageable with intermittent showers. August through October is when most typhoons pass through the Visayas region, and while Cebu is rarely hit directly, rough seas can cancel ferries and island-hopping trips. November transitions back to drier weather.

Pro tip: If you are on a budget, the wet season offers the best hotel deals. Many resorts drop rates by 30 to 50 percent from June to October. Just avoid booking island-hopping tours during typhoon months and have a flexible itinerary.

Best Months by Activity

Diving and Snorkeling

Best months: March to June. Water visibility peaks during these months, especially around Moalboal (sardine run is year-round but calmer seas make it better), Malapascua (thresher sharks are consistent from March to May), and Oslob. Water temperatures are warm at 27 to 30 degrees Celsius, and currents are mild.

Beach and Island Hopping

Best months: January to May. Calm seas make it easy to reach Bantayan Island, Camotes Islands, and Sumilon Island. Boats run on schedule and beach conditions are ideal. Avoid August to October when swells can make boat crossings uncomfortable or get cancelled entirely.

Festivals

Sinulog Festival: Third Sunday of January. This is Cebu's biggest event and one of the largest festivals in the Philippines. The grand parade features street dancing, live music, and a procession honoring the Santo Nino. The entire city comes alive for about a week leading up to the main event. If you want to experience it, book hotels and flights months in advance. Prices surge during Sinulog week.

Canyoneering and Waterfalls

Best months: February to May. Kawasan Falls canyoneering is available year-round, but the experience is safest and most enjoyable during dry months when water levels are predictable. During heavy rains, some sections may be closed for safety. The water is a stunning turquoise blue during dry season.

When to Avoid Visiting Cebu

There is no truly bad time to visit Cebu, but September and October carry the highest risk of typhoon disruptions. If your trip depends on island hopping or ferry connections, these months are the least reliable. Flight delays also increase during this period. If you must travel in September or October, stick to Cebu City activities and have backup plans for outdoor excursions.

Quick Reference: Cebu Weather by Month

  • August-October: Wettest months, typhoon risk, rough seas
  • November: Transitional, rain tapering off
  • December: Dry season begins, holiday crowds
